Developmental Courses

A new federal regulation limits the number of developmental course credits that can be considered for financial aid eligibility.

  • Developmental courses meet either of the two following conditions:
    • It is a course required for high school graduation under Michigan's High School Content Expectations law; or
    • It is a course designed with the express intent to prepare students for college-level course work.
  • A maximum of 30 credits of developmental courses can be used to determine enrollment level for financial aid purposes.
  • Once a student has attempted 30 developmental credits, he/she is not eligible to receive aid for developmental courses in future semesters.
  • If a student enrolls in a developmental course after attempting 30 developmental credits, financial aid award(s) will be adjusted and the student will be responsible for any balance due for the ineligible course.
  • The rule applies whether or not the student received aid for earlier enrollment in these courses.
  • There is more information on our developmental courses available.
